The Challenge
From historical trauma to systemic inequalities, Native American communities often navigate significant physical and emotional stressors. Unfortunately, these can lead to struggles with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.
- 25.3% of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) adults experienced a substance use disorder (SUD) in the past year, the highest rate among all racial and ethnic groups. [SAMHSA, 2023]
- Suicide rates for American Indians and Alaska Natives are more than 50% greater when compared to the general U.S. population across all age groups. [PMC, 2022]
- Native American overdose death rates increased from 6 per 100,000 in 1999 to 65 by 2022, reaching the highest rates compared to all other groups since 2018. [DPA, 2022]

Our Steps to Recovery
Medical detoxification removes substances from your body while managing withdrawal symptoms with medication(s) with 24-hour medical supervision. Our doctors create a custom plan based on your medical history to ensure the process is safe, efficient, and comfortable.
In inpatient treatment, you will live on-site with around-the-clock care. This stage is the most intensive, focusing on uncovering and addressing the root causes of your addiction and mental health challenges. Every day, your schedule consists of 6 hours of intensive therapy. What you and our clinicians discover will be treated during this and future programs, helping you gain insight and freedom.
During partial hospitalization, you’ll work on building skills that retrain your brain’s reward system to cope without drugs or alcohol. Substances may offer quick relief, but once the effects fade, nothing changes. To support long-term sobriety, you will learn delayed gratification—a skill that brings long-term rewards and a more fulfilling future.
In intensive outpatient, you’ll begin rebuilding your life as a sober individual. It’s a challenging and rewarding process, supported by mentorship, therapy, and a network of your peers. While staying in a sober living environment or at home, you’ll attend sessions at our outpatient facility 2-3 times a week to continue your recovery maintenance. Our flexible therapy sessions are designed to fit your schedule and responsibilities.
In this final stage, the focus is on balancing life and recovery. With support from your sober network and recovery program, you’ve built a foundation to move forward. Outpatient care now focuses on what brings you joy, aligns with your values, and helps you reach your goals. We’re here to support and challenge you, encouraging growth as you work toward your aspirations.

Our mental health and addiction treatment programs are built on a foundation of clinical excellence. We are dedicated to helping Native Americans overcome substance abuse and mental health challenges through a comprehensive approach that includes tailored therapies, expert clinical guidance, and daily in-depth meetings to assess progress and address ongoing challenges.
Around 39.1% of Native Americans report a potential need for behavioral health care for conditions like PTSD, depression, and substance use disorders. As a dedicated behavioral health treatment provider, Aliya provides treatment for Native Americans struggling with substance use disorders and traditional mental health disorders.
Family therapy is a building block of our mental health and substance abuse programming for Native Americans. We facilitate in-person and virtual family therapy sessions for spouses, significant others, parents, children, and siblings. We strongly encourage participation in family therapy for loved ones who are able and healthy enough to have involvement in the treatment process.
Introducing the group therapy model early in treatment helps us to lay the groundwork for our Native American patients to anticipate support from healthy, reciprocal relationships. We nurture this understanding throughout our programs. Building a network of support provides Native Americans with connection, socialization, motivation, advice, relatability, interpersonal effectiveness, accountability, and much more.
We help Native Americans build a strong recovery program. For those seeking mental health support, we connect them with NAMI Organizations. For Native Americans recovering from addiction, we encourage them to continue attending Wellbriety meetings and also share resources to other 12-step programs (e.g., Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous) or alternatives like Refuge Recovery, Recovery Dharma (Buddhist-based), SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery (Christian-based), and more.
Our mission is to prepare you for lasting success in recovery by the time you complete our program. We help Native Americans build essential life skills through workshops on nutrition and financial management. Our vocational services support you in finding employment, returning to a previous job, or enrolling in college or trade schools. We also empower you to advocate for your health and stay connected with to your tribal community. Every step of the way, we’re here to support your journey toward a brighter future.
A Proven Path to Holistic Healing
We understand the unique challenges faced by Native American communities and are dedicated to providing culturally-sensitive, trauma-informed treatment for individuals seeking healing and growth. By joining our Native American Program, you’ll gain access to all the comprehensive resources and expert care necessary to rebuild your sense of resilience, purpose, and connection.
